In May, Portland Pie worked with Portland Trails and the Maine Cancer Society to raise money for two great causes.
We raised over a $1000 to help Portland Trails build a network of multi-use trails in the greater Portland area. Here is what Portland Trails had to say about us:
Portland Pie Company’s commitment to trails and open space in greater Portland has a long history – they began donating pies to the Portland Trails’ “Trail to Ale” 10K Race back in 2005. Portland Trails fans have always enjoyed Portland Pie’s pizza after the race (it is the best in Portland, after all), so we were thrilled when they approached us about partnering for a benefit night. Last Thursday, all three Portland Pie Company locations donated $1 from each pint of Shipyard Brewing Company’s Summer Ale and Export sold to our cause -building a network of multi-use trails in the greater Portland area. And, we couldn’t miss the opportunity to promote the 10K – Portland Pie Company bought a beer for anyone who registered for the race that evening! With proceeds from beer sales and raffle tickets, we’ll receive almost $1000 to support our trail building efforts this year. It’s obvious that pizza, beer and getting outside are a great combination…we’re already talking about doing it again next year!
In addition to partnering up with Portland Trails at the beginning of May, we also worked with Tiffany Crawford to help her raise money for the Maine Cancer Society. Crawford is participating in Tri for a Cure, an annual women only triathlon that raises money for cancer research. The fundraising event was held on May 20th at Portland Pie in the Old Port and through a 50/50 raffle, a regular raffle for various prizes including homemade hoola hoops, a handpainted mailbox, whale watching tickets, and Sea Dogs tickets, and money raised by patrons drinking Sebago Hefeweizen, we raised over $1000. You can still donate directly to Tiffany Crawford’s cause by going to her donation page, http://triforacure.kintera.org if you missed out on the event.
In the month of March, Portland Pie raised over $1500 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association and will be able to send two kids to summer camp!
In the month of March all three Portland Pie locations worked together to sell shamrocks to raise money and awareness for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. This is our second year participating in the fundraiser and we met our goal of sending two kids to summer camp this year.
MDA is the nonprofit agency dedicated to curing muscular dystrophy, ALS and related diseases by funding worldwide research. The Association also provides comprehensive health care and support services, advocacy and education. Visit their website, http://www.mda.org/ to learn more.
